New low GI adverts on telly

Well I must say i have ALWAYS had an issue with tv, sport or media personalities endorsing health products that they really are not trained in. The assumption (or conclusion) and subsequent action that the viewer unconsciously makes is based on trust of the endorsee not the FACT or CONTENT about the product.

Tonight I saw an ad on telly with Ian Thorpe, an amazing sporting talent, endorsing the NEW low GI sticker. The ad gets some things right, high carb foods do lead to rising blood sugars and then a plummet and eventual fat gain. What they DO NOT get right, is that they say eating low GI foods facilitates fat loss. Then they pan across milo, grapes, breads. GUYS so close, but so far from the truth.

Carbs (regardless of their GI) lead to a blood sugar increase. The only way to curtail the swing is to eat proteins at the same time. Low GI is useful but the real message is to food combine.

And really should we be taking advice from someone who is an exceptional athlete and NOT a nutritionist???
